Big light problem!

Hey guys, i jus bought a 2002 Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique and it seems like iv bought someone else's problems!

When i start the car the headlights come on automatically and the only way of turning them off is to switch the engine off! At first i thought this was jus an automatic sensor as it was night time when i turned the car on, but i checked in the morning and the same thing was happening.

Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone know what i should do?
