Someone please help

The other day my friends and I went for a cruise in my 1999 Hyundai Accent, and when we rounded a corner my engine made a metallic thudding sound, felt like I lost a bit of power, and the Check Engine, Oil and the Battery lights all came on. So Naturally I pulled over and inspected the engine. Nothing looked out of place, however, when I attempted to start it all I get it a whinding whine sound. No attempt to turn over..just that pitiful sound. Does anyone know what may have caused this..? Please help me.
