Mercedes CLR

This will be my first time posting a WIP project on this or any forum. The subject is a 1/43 scale BBR kit of the Mercedes CLR. This car is infamous for doing back flips during the '99 Le Mans race. (youtube video )

My build will be OOB construction. It will also be slow going. Big chunks of time to spend on the hobby are hard to come by and adding a camera, image cleanup and forum postings are only going to slow things a bit. But the added challenge is a certain interest to me. The camera seems to catch flaws that the naked eye overlooks. It should lead to either demoralizing results or closer attention to detail.

For starters let's check out the kit.

Re: Mercedes CLR

For the first little bit of work. The drivers seat; seat belt cut from crepe paper, black wash to the single pieced buckle, Kevlar backed the seat body. Micro balloons added to the black paint to give the seat some texture. Not until seeing the photos did I notice how faded the color treatment of the seatbelts look. Have since given them another wash.

Re: Mercedes CLR

Very interesting project you are pulling off here. You donīt see too many CLRīs while CLK-GTRīs are rather common. Iīll be watching this one for sure and I really like what you did with the seat keeping in mind that this is 1/43.

Re: Mercedes CLR

That kit doesn't look too bad as for detail, so small. Still have to try one of these tiny kits. Keep us posted.

Re: Mercedes CLR

I'll continue on with the cockpit, a general black out of the area and additon of some color to the major components. Added CF to most any area I cound get to. Black washed a bit to highlight some details. Installed seat, instrument decals, stearing wheel & gear shift. So I think the cockpit is as complete as I can get it.

Re: Mercedes CLR

Thanks to all who have been looking. I appreciate the commnets as well. Sorry, there will not be a diorama to follow. Today I have applied the finish color (Finishers CLK Silver), Installed various body PE items and gave the panel lines a black wash using artist oils & mineral spirits. It looks like I have some touch up to do around the headlights before the lens covers go on. Next up decals & clear coat.

Re: Mercedes CLR

Good luck with your build. Just finished a little larger build not too long ago.

Re: Mercedes CLR

Thanks to all who have been looking. These little 43rd scale kits are quick to build even at my typically slow pace. She is complete. Hope you like
