need help w/:idoling,timing,and gas

94 s-10 chervy blazer 4x4 4.3 liter vortex cpi

well, my dad works on my car and i try to help when possible. he saids that it idles rough and the motor shakes but once you start to drive it it runs smooth. were trying to adjust the timing but it seems like we're missing all the time. when im driving the car, it seems like it burns a lot of gas and its just from driving around town. half the tank would be gone but the end of the day. so the questions are
how do we stop it from idoling badly?
how do we get the timing perfect or at least near it?
and is it supposed to burn so much gas?

yea, we replaced the plugs, wires, and rotor/distributar. we changed the fuel filter also. the fuel injector, tried it once but the thing is that the gas has been sitting in there for 2 years and a half. we changed the fuel pump though since it was clogging it.

To set timing you need to put it in base time mode.
Disconnect the single wire tan /black under ac/heater box inside cab sometime hid under capret or under glove box.

To set the timing you need to learn how to put it in base time mode.
Disconnect the base time bypass wire as directed.

Find a good repair manual and read up on the procedure and proper way to do it.
Good luck

Do just as MT instructed. After disconnecting the the tan/black wire, you then go ahead and adjust the time using a timing gun and rotate the distributor untill you set your timing mark at zero degrees. Once you set that tighten the distributor hold screw then recheck your timing to ensure that its still zero and it didn't move while you where tighten down the bolt. After that, go ahead and reconnect the tan/black wire. You'll need to clear your error code either with a scanner or by disconnecting the pos side of your battery for a min. After clearing you code start your motor. Your base line timing should be set. Use your timing gun and check your timing. It should be reading at 20 Advance.
