Angry Transmission mount problem - 2001 awd

I was crawling around under my van the other day to check something else, and decided to check my trans mount while I was there. I grabbed the rear of the trans and was able to move it around, so I got a new mount. The job was real easy - removed 2 bolts and 2 nuts, raised rear of trans a few inches, and swapped out the mount. Tightened everything up then checked for movement; nice and tight now.

Here's my problem: got in and started it up and now it instantly transformed in to a pile of junk! I've got rumbles, vibrations and a nice low droaning noise when I first pull out or climb a hill. Obviously this is all related to that new mount, or something else I disturbed while installing it, because I had none of these problems prior to changing it. I should have left the old one alone!! Can anyone give me a tip here?

Thanx

Re: Transmission mount problem - 2001 awd

It's possible that you got the wrong mount and it's too think. This would have the effect of raising the rear of the transmission and would change the angle of the driveshaft possible causing some of this. I don't know if there is a difference between the AWD and 2WD rear mount. Is it possible you got the wrong mount??

Re: Transmission mount problem - 2001 awd

I was just thinking about an alignment issue like you mentioned. I specifically said awd mount when I bought it, but who knows what I actually got. I did match the holes to the old one before I changed it, but I didn't line them up side by side for a height check. I still have the old one, so it might be going right back on!

I was driving the van around today and the vibration/droaning seems to be a little less than it was yesterday when I first put on the mount, but still not smooth like it used to be............
