Odd Clutch Issue

Whats Up guys!?

I was on the way home recently when my clutch all of the sudden felt really hard and although I could push it in normally it was stiff and I couldnt go into gears. I pulled over and looked around under the hood but didnt see anything, then I got back in and played with it and It fixed itself, however it locked up again awhile down the road.

Any ideas gents?

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

Is your throwout bearing making any noises? If it is it could be seizing up.

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

OK, I do hear a bit of a rattle if i can actually get the clutch pedal depressed, its really stiff, the rattle is barely noticable,

So how do you get to the throw out bearing? And I'm guessing it is better to go ahead and replace the entire clutch yes?

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

You have to drop the trans to get to the throw out bearing.

And if your clutch has some mileage then yeah you may want to consider it. If its not too much mileage you can get away with just doing a TOB. I did it twice last year

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

the clutch is entirely up to you but personally if i take out a tranny im putting in a new clutch no matter the milage unless its like 300 miles or something than somethings no alinged right and id prolly replace it anyways. but that just what i do i dont want to have to go back in a few miles and replace it if ya know what i mean i do alot of my own work i just dont understand the electronics and what is comonly wrong with the car im old fashioned lol grew up working a i/o's and outboards maybe i should stick to older cars such as mustangs and camaros and cavelles etc etc

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

Damn Stealthee, I was afraid of that, this might be too large a job for me to do :-/

My lovely car is starting to piss me off, I might have to sell it soon, already done a timing belt change, alternator, and replaced an ecu. but IDK we shall see.

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

its really not that bad, if you have access to a lift or some nice jack stands, and a buddy i'd bet you could figure it out.

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

Your a beast though Stealtee! Ha, well, I got an estimate of about $700 to replace the clutch, and I couldn't really find a good manual on it online, so I'm leaning to taking it to a shop, but man, everytime I take this car to a shop I end up wasting time and doing it myself eventually anyway, Im hoping the cluth would be easy for them though.

Re: Odd Clutch Issue

it really not all that hard to figure out if you know anything of mechanics at all you can drop your tranny just take your time do a lil reading and ull have it out within a 12 pack and a couple shot of something strong as to take the pain away from hitting your knuckles (hide the torch b4 starting to drink tho) the only way to learn is to do it yourself

replaceing the clutch is what i said i would do but every mechanic sees it different than the next each to his own i say its kinda like putting somethign away in storage one guys says well you want an empty gas tank, i say i want a full gas tank get my point lol

w/e you decide to do g/l with it and have some faith in yourself to do it
