Big Problem - Stumped!!!

I just swapped my old D16A6 motor for another D16A6 motor that supposedly doens't burn oil. We just got the swap done, got everything hooked up, and tried starting it - nothing. The engine turns over, but doesn't ignite. I'm getting spark - I checked all the spark plug wires, and I put my old spark plugs in just to see if I would get anything different. No change. I can smell gas after I crank on it for a minute or two, so I'm getting gas. I'm completely stumped. No error codes, nothing. Any ideas anybody.

whoa man, thats got me hella stumped! ur getting fuel, and spark, which is good, and ur prolly gettin air too so thats good so it should fire right up, the plug wires going to the distributor might be mixed up but i doubt it cuz i had my car running on 2 cylinders by accident and that was my prob but it fired up, umm, check all connections again, double check battery, and check the wires to the distributor, there might be a loose connection there, i dunno, i hope u get it sorted out tho,

We double checked the firing order and stuff like that with the spark plug wires, and they're correct. The only thing I can think of is timing belt is a tooth off, or is't flooded.

Check all your ground wires...I had a ground off right behind the head and it was doing exactly what yours is. Find all the grounding points on the engine and make sure their hooked up.

another quick fix to this is take some jumper cables and connect one to the negative on your chasis and the other end on your engine....... and see if that works..........

Well, we got it started - finally - I guess a couple of the spark plug wires were in the wrong position and the piston rings were dry with no oil, so we weren't getting any compression. I think there was something else, but i can't remember what he said. So anyway it's running. Kinda smoking but that's understandable right now. I'll keep you all updated.
