Accelerator pedal/cable sticking...

Besides the obvious danger inherent to this case, it only sticks when in idle, then once you do go beyond the original position (from unstepped then on to actual accelerating) it does not stick. Any body has this problem...?
Besides replacing throttle cable assembly, can this be repaired/greased in any form or way?

most likely the throttle body needs cleaning... remove the rubber air intake assembly and with a cloth, tooth brush and throttle body cleaner on a cold engine gently remove the build up of deposits by and behind throttle plate ....don't use too much cleaner as you can flood out engine clean up all residue before reinstalling the rubber intake plenum....

since this is being done, now would be a good time to clean the MAF use MAF CLEANER by CRC.....do not use any other cleaner as the electronics will be damaged follow the instructions carefully....this will make engine more responsive and help mpg...

Re: Accelerator pedal/cable sticking...

I just cleaned the plate. Lots of deposits, all over, some very hard. Took it all the way out for good cleaning/drying. Gasket looks nice. Cleaned it as well. Left it out for full dry, will comment later on progress. MAF will have to wait for next time around, had no cleaner for it.

Re: Accelerator pedal/cable sticking...

Well, Finally Got To The MAF...with CRC.
All Cleaned Up (MAF, Air Filter, Air Tube And Throttle Body). From Start, It Does Feel Better (engine Response And Revving), Though I Am Still Within The First Tank Full, Can't Yet Say On Better MPG's, But Will Keep You Posted.
Many Thanks. Sticky Pedal Was A Drag.

Re: Accelerator pedal/cable sticking...

My Suburban accelerator pedal was hard to push at idle too. Then it would break free and I would end up gunning the engine. Very annoying when I just wanted to ease the vehicle forward gently. At the advice of one of the threads I cleaned around the throttle plate with carb cleaner and that did the trick. Brushing with a toothbrush and wiping removed a lot of sticky black gunk from around the plate. Now I have smooth starts.

What is the MAF?

don't use carb cleaner .....this will damage throttle body componets...

Re: Accelerator pedal/cable sticking...

MAF=Mass Air Flow Sensor. Usually positioned between the air filter box and the throttle body with a wiring harness connected to it.
