clicking noise

91 metro, manual trans has clicking noise that increases with speed.Loud in 1st gear less after other gears.no clicking in reverse or figure 8 turnes. With car on jacks engine running in gear no clicking noise.Only when there is a load on the wheels going straight or turning the noise is the same.
Any ideas , CV joint?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but I think that's a contradiction.

It sounds to me like a CV joint issue and keep in mind it is not absolutely nessecary to have a torn boot to have a bad CV joint. It will typically begin only 'clickety-clacketying' around turns, but if left alone, will eventually make noise from a dig.
