HELP! Broken Hood Release Cable!

Hey guys, I got my wife a '93 TS a couple weeks ago, and a couple days ago, she got a "Service Engine Soon" light, and the cable broke when she tried to open it- first at the dash, then up inside, when I tried to pull it w/ pliers. I gave it a yank, and the whole cable came out w/o releasing the hood . I've got a new cable assembly coming, but how do I get the hood open to put it in?

OK...I went..tried and succeeded. (mmm...veni, vidi, vici...didn't someone tell that before???).

Use a coat hanger, and arrange end as shown. NOt much variation is acceptable. OF course I first inspected the access and designed the hook in full sight of the situation, then tried it already hooked in full sight, then with hood close, then hooked from outside but with hood opened, pulled with closed hood, then took all out and started from outside with no vision..and did it quite rapidly. Having done it with my eyes before helped repeat the pattern...but with a bit of luck, it is feasible. Photos tell of the path and obstacles. The red circle tells the critical pass.

My latch is well and regularly oiled and easy to operate as I'm afraid of the situation you describe so I could do the pull easily, but better have someone apply pressure down on the hood to release tension on the latch.

...I WILL install a permanent "panic" device just in case....and I suggest everyone to do the same. Sh...t happens.

Hey guys, I've been busy the last few days, but I tried this earlier tonight, and it worked like a charm! I tried for about 20 min, and couldn't manuver my fat hand up in there, but I showed my 14 year old on the other van where he had to hook the wire, and he had it open before I could even put the pliers down! I turned to set them on the porch and behind me I hear "FUMP!" I whip around and he's already got it open and propping it up!

Hehe, yeeaahh, my new, patented "Never the F*ck AGAIN!" handle was made and installed in about 60 seconds after he got it open! (In other words I twisted the coat hanger into sort of a T-handle shape and twisted the other end around the latch. )
