97 Park Avenue Driver Power Window Motor Replacement

Anyone have a step by step method for replacement of the window motor.

According to the directions supplied with the new motor, the sector gear has to be secured to keep it from moving, by drilling a 1/4" hole through the backplate and sector gear.

I thought it would be a simple motor replacement.

Any help will be appreciated.

I replaced the driver's side motor on my window about 2 years ago because it just stopped working. I ordered the part from here: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/WindowMotors/Buick/ParkAvenue. The part was about 40-50 bucks after shipping. You can actually get them cheaper if the motor is all you need. It was a very simply installation. I removed the door panel, protective plastic sheet on the inside of the door, and then simply unscrewed the old motor and unplugged it. Simple swap out. No drilling required.

Thanks for the quick reply. I saw your previous post about your PA window problem and tried to email you but you have that feature blocked. Then I come back to see if anyone replied and look who replied. Unreal.

So just remove the 3 nuts and remove old motor and replace with the new motor?

Right?

I guess the drilling is when the motor and regulator are removed as a unit.

Correct. Just remove the 3 bolts (since you are only replacing the motor) and disconnect the power connector. Installation of the new motor is as simple as lining up the gears, reconnecting the power cord, and bolting on your new motor. Make sure it works before you put the entire door panel back on. Hear of a friend who replaced his motor, didn't check it, and then put the panel back on. He turned his car on and then realized it was a more serious problem. Good luck!

How do you line up the gears, by raising and lowering the window manually to match the motor gears? Or do you manually turn the new motor gear to match the regulator sector gear? Seems like the motor gear is hard to turn by hand.

Clip you new motor into the power connector and then using the window controls (you may have to temporarily plug the unit back in) get the gear to turn until it matches the position the regulator gear is currently at. Get is close and get that motor catching. It will eventually catch and work. Just be careful not to strip either plastic gear. Good luck.

Repair made. Took about 15 minutes.

When I took off the OEM part, I could not believe how much lighter it felt compared with the new cardone select motor (ordered thru rockauto.com via ebay- received part in 2 days, it was shipped from NY to Ohio).

Here is how I replaced motor:

Used two pieces of duct tape(over top of door) to hold window from falling.

Used a 10mm open end wrench for one of the nuts and used a 10mm socket on the other two.

After removing old motor, aligned new motor over the studs, pushed new motor toward sector gear while raising window for alignment(to match both gears).

It is an easy fix, if anyone is interested.
