2000 Taurus SE FUEL_FILTER

Does anyone know where the fuel filter on a 2000 Taurus SE V6 is?

On my 2002, the fuel filter is located just in front of the right rear wheel. If you are replacing the fuel filter, make SURE you get the plastic clips that DO come with a new filter.

Thanks Rob!
I just picked up this 2000 Taurus SE with V6,it's a retired FBI car.
This car seems tobe better quality than my 2000 S type JAG.

I break the small clip every time I change the filter and only place I've found it is at the dealership. Don't drive without it, the hose will come off.

I don't mean to deviate from the thread topic, but your new filter should come with new clips. Are the new ones breaking on installation? I've seen a lot of them break on removal, but not often on installation. If you new ones aren't coming with clips, please let me know so I know what brand to stay away from.

Re: 2000 Taurus SE FUEL_FILTER

The Gen IV models require different sized filter line clips, maybe the Gen III does as well. Some filters come with two clips, both LARGE. I tried to force the larger one with a little readjustment in size by filing but the hose blew off on me down the road a ways.
It's easy to check the package for included clips when store buying. I found that the Purolator filter from Pep Boys does not include clips at all. The larger one is strong enough to re-use but I've broken the small one every time. Dealership charges near $9 for the small clip.
I would appreciate to hear if anyone has a cheaper source for the small clip or an alternative.

Re: 2000 Taurus SE FUEL_FILTER

Ahhh, I do remember reading something on the forum awhile back about an R-clip versus something else (smaller vs. larger). I haven't experienced any of those yet.

Have you checked to see with the dealer charges for a new filter and if it includes the clips? Maybe it's cheaper to buy the filter with clips than just one clip....

Don't recall what the dealership charges for the filter and/or if it includes clips but remember it is much more expensive than the one NAPA sells for $10. I slip in both sides of the broken clip in the slots and install a gear drive hose clamp securely over the joint.
