Boost & Boost controlers.......

So i have been looking to tune/ upgrade my car trying to find the little things to start with and work my way up. I noticed the "free boost mod" that was talked about for the 1st gen Vr4's but I'm a lilttle scared to do then when the car is stock and has 135K miles on it. The car runs good but I know it can be better. I have a vaccum hose kit to fix all the posible leak problems but would you guys suggest getting a boost controler and or uping the boost at all? and if so is it better to go with a manual control or electric.

Any help is welcome Thanks

I am such a whore.. haha But I can get you a MBC or EBC you just let me know what you interested in.. I personaly like MBC.. and Use them on all my cars. as far as the mileage goes.. I have cranked the boost on my red VR4 with 120k no problems.. till I blew up my turbo. but I was peaking at 19psi..

Re: Boost & Boost controlers.......

since you already have a vac hose kit, i would just go ahead and do a vac line ruduction. That will take care of the free boost mod as well.

i'd get a ebc so you dont have to keep getting out the car and under the hood whenver something seems to change. ebc is right there infront of you. also nice to turn it on or off up or down wenever you choose at the turn of a dial

Re: Boost & Boost controlers.......

also depends on your budget to. MBC's are cheap, like $15. You will also need a gauge. You can safely turn up your boost to 14 PSI. Your car should be fine if its been maintained. My friend's RT/TT just rolled over 194K miles, he's running 13T's at like 17 PSI, drives like a bat out of hell, and the car is still a champ.

Re: Boost & Boost controlers.......

O ok nice sounds good i didn't think you could/should really turn the boost up that much... or up at all really without other things upgraded.... Are there any EBC or MBC that you guys would suggest that are better then others?

Re: Boost & Boost controlers.......

to answer your question, a vacuum line reduction is basically the removal of all the emissions/EGR crap, which is 90% of the vac lines under the hood. here's a basic before and after diagram:

if you're looking for any more info on the procedure, try searching over at 3si. it's beed discussed and documented pretty thuroughly over there, and theres a really good how-to write-up in the wiki.

the engine can handle way more amounts of boost and power. These engines are not weak. Where your problem comes in stock form is fuel delivery and little bitty turbos that start dumping in hot air that is bad for your engine after a certain point. Most people discover that 14.5 psi is the limit. However, your turbos will not be able to hold that much boost to redline because they aren't large enough to feed the engine with the amount of air it needs.

If you go with the MBC I would personaly go with a TurboXS

If you want to go with a EBC I would suggest AEM Gauge Controller.. Its cool cause it reads your boost and you can adjust it in your car..

If that one isn't singing to you maybe one of these

Greddy Profec B Spec II
