We have a 96 Voyager which does not start. It was running just fine a day ago. The problem started when we stopped somewhere after a longer drive and then when we came out it wouldnt start. We waited a few minutes and it started up fine. We got it home fine, when we started it today it would not start at all. We checked the battery and connection and they are fine, the battery is less than a yr old. We replaced the starter this afternoon and it still wont start...it just makes the clicking noise. Any suggestions??

Re: 96 Voyager-wont start/just clicking noise

Check the voltage at the starter to make sure you are getting 12 volts or more to starter. Have you tryed boosting the battery, If you have a multimeter check what voltage the battery has, should be 12.6V or higher. Battery being less than 1 year old doesn't mean it is a good battery. Are the battery cables and terminals shiney clean??? |

Re: 96 Voyager-wont start/just clicking noise
I bet it starts if you jump it.
Too bad you replaced the starter, that wasn't cheap. There's a relay in the starter itself that tends to go bad and you can't find it for sale without buying the whole starter. I had in indy mechanic once fashion a new relay out of copper wiring (you don't want to know how, he was an evil genius) and it worked. In fact it's still in there. |

Your battery is bad or totally discharged, or you have a poor connection on a battery terminal.

Re: 96 Voyager-wont start/just clicking noise
I have a friend having a similer problem and it was the starter relay , was not getting the correct voltage to engage the relay, he never figured it out so he cut the top of the relay and when it won't start he opens the hood pushes the component over to complete the curcuit and it starts . I'm finding dodge product strange and the electrical system hard to Diagnose down to one exact problem . Just a friend personal experience .

Re: 96 Voyager-wont start/just clicking noise
Hey Revs. . . . If you need help and are willing to pay $9.00 try asking a mechanic on www.justanswers.com. I was having a starting problem too and tried it. The mechanic was very helpful and will work you though it. They sold me on it. You don't even have to pay them if you don't like their answer. What he told me sounded really hokey but it worked jus like he said it would.

Will it start if you jump start it? If so, check the alternator
