So I think I'm retarded...

OK, so I'm sure there is probably a thread out there somewhere that might talk about what I'm gonna ask, but because my key phrases would be audio, or stereo to search for I'm gonna get like 500 posts and I really dont feel like sifting through a bunch of crap to possibly get some answers. With that said...

I was changing out my aftermarket head unit to finally install my in dash DVD when I ran into some pretty substantial problems. The process I took...I took out the passenger seat to remove the factory amp and replace it with the brain for the DVD player (Of course I have already disconnected my battery). I installed the brain in the same location the stock amp was at under the seat. I removed my old head unit and cut the wire harness off and re-spliced the harness for the dvd player (following the install manual for the DVD player). Before hooking the head unit to the brain I connected my battery and checked to make sure I was getting power to the head unit and the screen and everything turned on and powered up fine. I disconnected my battery again, ran all my audio cables to the brain and began connecting everything together. Before I buttoned everything up and replaced my panels I powered the car up again to make sure everything worked...and to my absolute dismay, nothing worked. Not only was the DVD player not powering up, but my sunroof is stuck open, my power locks don't work, my alarm isn't getting power, dome lights don't work, and to cap it off the car refuses to idle without dying. I've checked everything...fuses are good and get power under the hood and in the cabin; however, somewhere after the fuse panel inside the car there must be a short because there is no power getting to any of the listed accessories that don't work. After looking for days into what the problem could be I have given up. There are so many fucking bundles of wires in the dash I get lost.

I guess my question is this....does anyone have any idea what the fuck happened? How could simply splicing a head unit wire harness fuck up so much shit. AND, how is any of this stuff connected...the sunroof, dome lights, power locks, and engine idle...i'm at a total loss, and have no idea who to take it to (mechanic or audio guy). The car looks like a bomb went off inside because it's so far apart, so I feel very foolish taking it to an audio place and having them be like, "what the fuck was this dumshit doing?!?!?). Somebody please tell me they have some Ideas that are out of the box, because just about everything inside the box has been thought of (although please feel free to list some basic things that I might be forgetting...but not fuses unless they are the big fuckers that you cant tell if they're blown or not).

and to end....FUCK ME!!!

Re: So I think I'm retarded...

You checked all the fuses, both in car and under hood? (just covering bases)

As for idle, it's most likely just because you disconnected the battery. It should fix itself in a little while. (you reset the ECU)

Re: So I think I'm retarded...

Ordinarily I would have thought that the idle was because of the ECU reset, but it's been doing it for over a week and has not yet fixed itself. I have probably started the car 25 or so times and ran it for over 15 min each time...so I think it's something else...damn.

As for the fuses...yes they are all good, thanks though

Re: So I think I'm retarded...

its not the ecu, its one or more wires you have put together are wrong.....take out the dvd shit and connect all the wire back together and then read up on the dvd installation and wire colors......it cant be the fac amp because i disconnected that and everything ran well....if you are using the fac amp then its the amp, i killed 2 of my amps by re connecting the battory the wrong way ..like taking the red off before the black wire on the battory so that my be the prob. if i was you re check all fuses, in your car and under the hood, but first re connect the wires you spliced

Re: So I think I'm retarded...

i figured out what the problem was...somehow I temporarily shorted something and blew an in line fuseable link, which was why my fuse box in the car was getting power, but no power was getting to anything else. It was a mother fucker to find and get to...but she's all good now.
