Question replace 95 sohc with 03 sohc?

I have a 95 neon with a sohc. The timing belt broke, and it leaks a lot of oil.
I found a good deel on a 03 engine and want to know... is the motor the same and if not what will i have to do to get it to work.

If this motor is not compatable what year engines can i use?
Can I use another year engine and put all of my old electronics on it?

Re: replace 95 sohc with 03 sohc?

I will try to answer some of your questions but I haven’t worked on a 2000 + Neon yet. I did put a 1999 twin cam in my 1995 single cam Neon though. You will need to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds. I believe there also is a difference on the machining on the block for a crankcase breather. Any sensors that are the same can remain look at www.partsamerica.com and look them up. If they don’t mach you will need to swap the ones out from the 1995 engine. If you can’t use them you will need to change the connectors to match the new sensors. I soldered and heat shrank all mine when I did mine, not a job for someone that isn’t real good with wiring. I had to print the wiring diagrams for both cars and it took a full day to do. The car runs great and I have driven it from Ohio to Daytona Beach twice so far.

You can't run an 03+ neon engine in a 95-02 neon without swapping the entire harness or running standalone engine management.

It can be done, you'll need your motor mount plate on the side of your old motor, almost all of your sensors, I'd run with your intake manifold, you can use either your old injectors or the new ones.

Re: replace 95 sohc with 03 sohc?

Looks like they (Chrysler) changed the crank and the tone wheel for the crank sensor in 2003 sorry I was wrong, correct me if I'm wrong das2123 looks like 2002 and older will work.

Re: replace 95 sohc with 03 sohc?

95-2002 SOHC engines are the same. In the 2003, the neon was switched over to the NGC PCM control, which necessitated a movement of the crankshaft position sensor, and a different number of teeth on the crank gear.

Even the blocks are different as well.

Oh yeah I guess I didn't see that he wants an 03, in that case I think he would have to swap the eingine harness and dash to make evrything work, better off doing the srt swap instead.
