Passenger Window erratic sticks noise

Greetings,

I have searched the forum and seen the many threads that mention lubing up the felt channels for an erratic passenger window. My situation is a little different in that it has some motor noises when the windos gets to the top. See below.

I am faced with replacing either the regulator or the motor assy (or both) in my 2000 venture tomorrow. It has been bad for a few months but was waiting until the weather got better. The passenger window operates crookedly and erratically from either switch. It makes a somewhat rapid thud-thud-thud-thud when it gets to the top and the switch is still pressed. The noise stops when I release the switch. I have only tried it briefly because I was afraid it would get stuck in the midway psotion and it has been winter for a while.

It has managed to stay up for the last few months and I have not used it at all. Anyway, I need to investigate it tomorrow. I have heard there is a replacement scissors like regulator for it, and also the possiblilty of the regulator motor.

The GM shop manual doesn't give a real good R&R procedure for it. Does the assembly come as a whole? Or are there two separate assemblies? IE is the scissors assy attached to the motor etc? I have seen both advertised on the internet separately. The manual also mentions a special tool J-38864 Counterbalance spring removal and installation tool. I know I don't have access to one of these. Do I really need it? Can I make the repair without it? Can I fashion one?

If anyone has some step by step R&R procedures, or some tips or shortcuts, I 'd love to hear from them. Thanks..

P.

Re: Passenger Window erratic sticks noise

Sorry for the late update, but I thought better late than never.

What I found with this was that the motor assembly is held on with 3 screws to the plastic sub frame of the inner door. Two of the 3 tabs for the screws were broken off. I suspect this happened when one of my kids had a tantrum and slammed the door shut real hard. Don't know for shore.

I was able get slightly longer screws, (warm them slightly) with a torch, and screw them in to the remaining plastic of the sub frame. You have to be real careful to not use screws that are too long, as they will interfere with the window.
