Question Code scanners/readers

What is a good scanner/reader? I'm looking into buying a code scanner/reader. Two that I'm interested in are the Actron CP9190 and the Equus Inova 3140. They read both obdI & obdII Anyone had any experience with either of these? Recommendations on a good one? Thanks!

I have the one almost identical to the 3140 and am pretty pleased with it. I'd buy it again for an easy to use, easy to carry scanner. I wish they'd combine an ABS scanner with this type of scanner. I don't think you'd go wrong with either one personally.

I use the scan gauge. I like it a lot. Not to pricey. It also gives you live data. Such as water temp, MPH,MPG,RPMS and many other options.. Just type in scan guage and it should come up on there web site.. Hope this helps,Gary

I've got an Actron, but not the same model, works fine. Only comment I'd make with any of the scanners is make sure it is CAN compatible. My Actron wasn't even though almost all of them of the same model are, had a late firmware upgrade to the model after mine made it out the door. It will be tough to know that with most Actron models since they don't mention it on the box or on their website.

Stay away from OTC scantools, made by SPX and they do not stand behind their equipment.Actron is made by SPX.SPX is a greedy company and they did to my Grandma Rose in 1967.My father will not buy anything made by SPX since what they did to my Grandma Rose and this is true.the story is that my grandfather on my father's side passed away from a heart attack at age 39 when my father was 13 years old working for SPX.They sent my Grandma Rose his 20 year pin and denied her his retirement money since he worked there for 19 1/2 years. This is true and SPX did this. She cannot do anything about it to this day and SPX took the retirement money away, greedy scumbags.

Actron CP9180 works great alot of features and can record while driving. Almost as good as my snapon. Can monitor all sensors at one shot..
Actron 200 bucks or so
The cp9190 is like the same scanner but with the addon cables..
