Dex-Cool Question?

you guys seem to be very knowlagable with this stuff so i have yet another question... i had my 1996 blazer for two years so i know by now they require Dex-Cool. when i bought my 2000 i noticed my cooland was deffinently not Dex-Cool.I think regular old 50/50 can sludge it up cant it? how do i know or not if its the new 50/50 thats good for any make or model? what is the differance between the 2??

Did you buy your 2000 new or used? If used, perhaps the former owner either changed the coolant or may have added something different to the Dex Cool that was currently in the vehicle. Mixing other coolants even those designed to "mix with Dex Cool" can cause issues. The differences between the two mainly is the formulations. To be safe you might want to drain the old coolant out of the cooling system, flush it out and replace it with the proper fresh coolant for your vehicle.

i bought it used (101,000) it doesnt look like its been mixed (its bright neon green) no sign of dex-cool i will drain it today. thanks

Neon green may be the universal coolant.
It has a sometimes yellow and sometimes neon green tint.
It is said to mix with anything on the jug.
I have used it but I do not like to push the mix with anything.

Best to fulsh and change coolant ever 3 years or 50K.

If you coolant has been in there 2 years and you are not sure what kind I would go ahead and flush it out and put in new good stuff.

Great info OM, I still believe the coolant "crusties" were too many stop leak tablets put in new engines at the factory.
