Aftermarket car alarm problems?
I bought a '00 civic HX from a dealer that came with an aftermarket car alarm. I hated the car alarm, so a neighbor's friend of mine turned it off and since then had no problems.
After work today though, I got in my car, turned my headlights on first, started my car, and nothing happened and the headlights went out and nothing on my dashboard lit up. i figured it had to do with the battery, so i jiggled the battery cables and the car alarm turned back on and it started going off and now I couldn't start it up at all (because I assume the car alarm is engaged again). The car alarm is going off which means the battery is working again but I can't turn my car on because the car alarm is on. Is it normal for a car alarm to turn back on like that? I didn't have my keychain remote with me at the time to disengage it and still haven't tried the keychain remote yet. Are there are any general ways to disabling aftermarket car alarms? Any ideas on getting my car started in general incase my keychain remote doesn't work? I don't know the brand because its not on the keychain remote. |

Re: Aftermarket car alarm problems?
If I am not mistaken, the car alarm will usually disengage your ignition to prevent the car from being stolen. You must have restarted the alarm when you were wiggling the wires to the battery. If I were you, I'd remove the fuse that controls the alarm or disengage it someway so that it will not ever turn on.
