No Reverse in 94 GC Limited
94 CG Limited - V8 - 169,000 - all time 4WD
My son reports reverse just suddenly stopped working when he tried to back out of a friends drive. When I have the JEEP in park there is a rapid, random, moderately loud clicking from the front area of the tranny. In reverse the clicking stops and the car seems much as though it is in neutral. In neutral it seems normal. Drive gears seem normal. What do you think we have here? I'm thinking(actually hoping) maybe a broken flex plate, but could that account for only P and R being affected? Thanks, Dave

Re: No Reverse in 94 GC Limited
I had a 94 ZJ 5.2L with 217k miles on it when I wrecked it and never once had tranny problems.. the 46RH is a very strong transmission.
Have you checked the tranny fluid to make sure it was full. if fluid is full I would start with a band adjustment. if I remember corrextly reverse is controlled by the rear band. Which you will have to drop the transmission pan to get to it and you will need a 5/16" 8 point socket, or 5/16" weatherhead socket.
