a/c problem

last year my mom gave me her 89 civic, she had the local j college recharge the a/c. last year it stopped working. i just replaced the a/c relay and nothing happend. what else should i check. i'm not that familiar with this stuff. i'm more the rebuild an engine kinda guy.

anyway any help would be great. i did a few seaches but i'm really not sure what to search for exactly.

A helms manual has flowcharts for troubleshooting the ac system.
