Help....My engine is crazy
I was driving home this week and all was fine. All of a sudden the engine was running rough, my EGR was shaking and making a loud noise (sounded like a tire blew out). There was a banging under my car and I was lossing power. What caused this to happen in a split second? I checked my oil when i got home and it was at the add mark, the week before it was fine. The engine idles erratically at idle.

It is a 1991 Cavalier Z24 with 172,500 miles, 3.1 V6

Maybe the EGR is stuck open ??? I believe that year has a OBD1...Can you find someone with a code reader. I know in my area Advance Auto or AutoZone will scan for Free ! If the have the OBD 1 capability.

Autozone doesn't scan autos before 1995...just FYI

OK....let me back up...Do you have a CEL ( check engine light) or similar light that is luminated on the dash ? If yes...then check around an see if a shop in town will read the codes for a small price. If you ask nicely...they may do it for free. I do all the time for polite people.
