94 Altima cuts out then restarts OK - I replaced fuel pump now cuts out while driving

I have a customer that has a 1994 altima that ran out of gas. He put gas in it, and ever since the out of gas incident, the car would randomly quit running, usually coast off to the side of the road wait several minutes, sometimes up to 20 minutes, then car would restart and be ok for a while. He installed a new fuel filter, then brought it to me for a new fuel pump.

I installed the new fuel pump, and now the car cuts out less often, but still randomly cuts out. BUT-- It restarts right away now with no hesitation or long wait time?

Any ideas? I do not usually work on Nissans, but he is a good customer... Could it be a bad pump? Or is there another typical Nissan issue that causes this. I also cleaned the throttlebody as well.

I would be glad for any Nissan experts help here!!!!! THANKS!!!

I know that when I had this problem, replacing the alternator fixed it right up. I dieing alternator can make random things go wrong with a car. Worth a shot. GL
