2004 f150 engine knocking

my 04 f-150 with a 5.4 liter engine has a knocking noise when it warms up. I took it to the local dealer and was told it was the camshaft phaser sensor and it would'nt be a problem if I left it as is. Wondering if anyone else had this problemor if it could be another problem instead. The truck has 180,000 kms.

Thanks for any help.

as any knock it will eventually cause problems. Could be a coil. have you ever had the coils changed/checked? 180,000 miles? does the check engine light come on?

Re: 2004 f150 engine knocking

I have also been told it is the cam phasers. The local ford dealer wants to do an oil pressure check first, if pressure is good, they would fix the phasers ($4200). If it is bad, new engine would be warranted. After discussion with the service manager, he said drive it as is, if it dies, then puit in the new motor. ($6300). Nice huh?
