security light flashes/wont start

I have been trying to diagnose a propblem with my 93 bonne. For a long time the security light would come on not flash and the car would start, One day I went to start it and it would not start, the security light was flashing. Is this a module problem or something else? if module where is it located, how can I identify it?

Re: security light flashes/wont start

Welcome to AF! Your car came equipped with what is called a PassKey system. Notice the resistor "chip" in the key. If the key reader in the steering column does not read the resistance of the chip in the key, the security system (theft deterrent module) will shut down the start enable relay and fuel injector pulse. It will reset automatically after 3-4 minutes and then you can try again.

First, clean the resistor with a pencil eraser, or alcohol on a Q-Tip & see what happens. If you have another key, keep it with you to try in case this happens again. If that fails to resolve the problem, you may have a damaged key reader, or wires in the steering column. Try the keys first! BTW, this system can be bypassed with a simple resistor of the same value as the one in your key.
