Flagpole Question

I am trying to figure out a way to rig a flagpole to the bed of my truck. I don't want to drill anything into my bed and want it to witstand 60 mph speeds.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Flagpole Question

Interesting question...I would start with a magnetic mount something like this if you don't have a bed liner:

You would need to adapt if to fit the flag pole base and I'm sure you would need to have guy wires from all four corners of the top of the bed. As for how much wind it could handle...that would depend a lot on the size and weight of the flag.

Re: Flagpole Question

My bed does have a spray in liner. I was thinking, I could drill 2 holes in the pole where the loops are in the rear corner of the bed. What do you think the pole should be made of to hold, dimensions?

Re: Flagpole Question

WHAT?!?!?!? A 3/4 ton without a gooseneck hitch?
A G.N. coupler would be perfect to mount a flag pole to. Then you could also use the trailer light plug to power a light bulb in the bed, and shine on the flag (old glory?) at night. Like "Bigfoot" only cooler 'cuz its not a F-2 s#!tty.

Re: Flagpole Question

good luck, you will need to factor in a cross wind. if the wind is blowing 30 mph at 60mph in the truck thats a 90 mph wind.

Re: Flagpole Question

I think that there is all kinds of different material you could use for the pole like possibly some 2" conduit for example. But personally I do not think that the flag it self would hold up for very long at highway speeds. If you want to be patriotic maybe get one of those decals for the back window that is the American flag, they are full of tiny holes so you still have visibility through them if that is an issue. You can have the window decal for the highway and if you still want to go with the flag pole and idea, use that for running around town, the lower speeds will allow the flag to last longer IMO.

Re: Flagpole Question

This is just me thinking, but if you took a hitch draw bar, without ball, you could get as section of some 3/4"ID steel pipe, place it in the hole and weld it to the hitch draw bar. Once finished, you can drill a couple of holes in the upper portion of the pipe and use steel cable to attach your flag.

Sorry for the small, simple drawing!! I only have Paint on my computer!! Anyway, that is my idea and I'm stickin' to it.

Sincerely,
Matt
