Need Jeep Info Please

I'm thinking of going from a Dodge Durango 1998 82k miles loaded to thinking of getting a used Jeep Grand Cherokee loaded with the 6 or 8 cylinder.
My question is what would be best for the Jeep choice for decent gas mileage.
Is there a difference from the 6 to 8 cylinder in gas mileage? Should I just get another Durango or go for the Jeep. I have looked at some Jeeps this past weekend and they seem to be a bit smaller than the Durango(maybe better gas mileage)!!! Hope someone can enlighten me with some good advice.

Thanks

My jeeps are older both 96. The I6 engine has good power, but the v8 has alot more passing power for about $10 more per tank of gas. The grand cherokee does have more options and add-ons for people that off-road.

I think either way you go will be a good choice in my opinion, I have the I6 in mine and like it alot while wheeling, although I here the gas mileage isn't that much worse with the V8.

Lots of upgrades available so you will stay busy!

Good luck.

Re: Need Jeep Info Please

I do not know how many miles per gallon the average I6 or V8 gets but I will say my '94 JGC Limited gets 14 MPG around town and anywhere from 24-27 MPG on the highway. Or at least till I started having issues with the front end, transmission, and transfer case.
My personal experience is I would not have chose a Jeep Grand Cherokee if I knew a lot of these problems were going to happen. I do like the Jeep though and I am still considering on whether to fork out the cash and get it repaired or try to find some fool and sell/trade it to. I figure the money it would take to repair it could get me another good used vehicle instead though unless I do all the work myself which I am unsure about my ability since it has been a long time since I did that type of work.

Re: Need Jeep Info Please

I wouldn't let engine size, 4.0 or 4.7 liter, influence your decision unless you plan to do a lot of towing, the 4.7 has a stronger transmission.
I have a 4.0L in mine and have driven both, no huge difference in mpg or HP.
