Hood Removal

How do I remove the hood from a '97 Grand Prix? I know I'll probably need another person helping me. What kind of tools will I need? Is putting a new hood on as simple (or as difficult) as taking the old hood off?

Re: Hood Removal

Welcome to AF!!

Removing the old hood is a two person job as you need to hold both sides of the hood while removing the bolts. Once all four bolts are out simply lift the hood off. No special tools are needed just a ratchet and socket or an open ended wrench.

As for putting the new one on this is a little more complicated as you will need to adjust the hood so that it fits correctly. This will involve getting it properly centered in the opening so that the seams on either side are equal in size. To do this attach the new hood like you took the old one off. Then it is trial and error by opening and closing the hood and adjusting the fit by moving it from one side to the other on the hinges. Once you get the proper fit tighten the bolts and close the hood. Not hard just time consuming.

Good Luck!!
