Should I buy an Envoy ??
Ive been driving a 98 Blazer for the last 70,000 miles its been ok but I have had a few minor problems with it , In the Blazer Forums there are a lot of complaints of the Blazer . Iam thinking of buying a used 07 or 08 Envoy , would you as an owner of an Envoy still buy an Envoy or look at some other suv ? Which one // Whats the biggest mechnical ( most expensive to fix)complaint of the Envoy ??

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
Welcome AF, I am a 100k owner of a 2002 TB, it has ben a littany of repair/recall /update issues. Mileage is about 17 avg. Runs and rides nice, though. It is one of lowest rated SUV's by Consumer Reports, and will be phased out in 2010. The newer ones you are looking at are certainly far improved over the earlier models.

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
Sorry for jumping in here but would you mind answering a couple of questions, since you have one. I am looking at a 2004, 4.2v6, SLE model I think can be bought for about 7-8K. Would not be driving it a lot, just for towing a pop up camper and eventually a boat. Should I stay away and seek something else maybe? Seems all of these have some issues whether it be Ford or GM. This truck is in nice shape, has 87K on it. Does the 4.2 have nice power? Wanted a V8 but with gas, well....

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
I tow a 3k trailer no issue, the price of the truck is very good, but get it looked at first, usual used car/truck purchase procedure.

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
Thanks! I am going to look at it in person Tuesday. Is it for sale locally but the owner has it on Ebay at no reserve... (he wholesales used cars, has a VERY good rep) and this may be a steal. He also has others I am looking at such as a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee but I really like the looks of this truck from the photos I've seen. Won't have time to get it looked at as far as a mechanic is concerned but plan to drive it and put it through it's paces. Will check it myself and advise back....

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
I passed on the Envoy, had problems with the speedo I did not care for and upon closer inspection I could tell it was not quite what I hoped, dirty oil etc and signs of tinkering. (speedo was off by 20MPH, would not return to zero when off or stopped....)It did run well and was impressed with power of the 4.2 for sure. wife did not care for the cabin area though and with the speedo problem I just did not care for it. I found an 04 Blazer that was priced well below NADA, one owner that WAS cared for and I bought it instead (little over 6K). Not the HP I would like but adequate and we loved the space it had. Will do fine for a couple of years and then maybe will look at a new one. thanks for your input.

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
I love my envoy. I have a 2003 and I bought it used with 80,000 miles on it. The biggest most expensive problem I had were the bearings in the steering column went bad, and it was a grand to replace the entire steering column. I would buy again, great family vehicle, but not excellent gas milage.

Re: Should I buy an Envoy ??
I am looking at getting a 2002 Envoy XL for winter time use.
Is there a problem with the turn signal switches like there was in my 04 Monte? Notice on the test drive the left turn signal blinked fast like it had a burned blinker bulb and 2 days later now wondering if it might be a turn signal switch. I didn't look at bulbs or see if the turn signals where blinking on the test drive. What other problems to watch for on the 2002? |
