Angry noises... driving me crazy

This issue isn't damage threatening (that I know of) it's just bugging the crap out of me so any help would be appreciated. Ever since I bought my 04tb last december, its had this funny noise in the dashboard. It's sorta quiet and you wont notice with the radio on but I have been doing some tuning lately and have been listening to the motor to see whats happening. This sound is starting to drive me crazy. It's between a squirting and grinding noise and it is pretty audible through the vents. Can't hear it under the hood though, just too much engine noise there. Inside the cab the engine is extremely quiet compared to other cars which makes this noise a nuisance. It's not constant, like a broken stream of it, think running-water intermittent, but as described above. Anyways, I recorded it to the best of my ability and will be putting the files up for all to listen at. Any help would be appreciated.

In the "reference file.mp3" all the eq's are cut except for the noise, listen for a clicking noise for a few seconds and then you know what to listen for in the other files.

thanks thanks

Re: noises... driving me crazy

after having my head under the hood for half the day i realized that seems to be coming from the driver side of the engine compartment and it sounds like an old hard drive clicking away. It is audible enough to hear up to 5 ft away from the car. It is related to engine activity, I put my foot on the pedal engine revvs, zzzzzzp noise as it goes up, no noise at peak or rev, and zzzzzzp down. Somebody tell me all trailblazers do this so I can move on with my insanity. Either it sounds like somthing is loose, or its normal but I dunno .

Possible loose baffle on the exhaust, could be the auxiliary air pump working, from our position really cannot tell. Bad fan clutch?

Yeah I realize that, thanks for the ideas tho. I was hoping some other TB owners might have had the same issue and would know...

My 05' LT does the exact same thing. "Squirting & hissing" coming from the air vent area of the dash board. Sounds sort of like a coffee pot brewing (not clearing). It is rather annoying, I agree. Couldn't bother the service center about it, they'll waste half of my day just to later tell me that they couldn't recreate the problem.

Does it sound like a bearing going/gone bad? You've got 4 items up there in order of suspicion: 1) fan clutch 2) belt tensioner pulley 3a) A/C compressor 3b) alternator. Do your best to listen to each one separately. If you strike out, a scan will sometimes ID a failing fan clutch, but just a noisy bearing would be mechanical. Good luck.

Re: noises... driving me crazy

not sure, everything looks to be in fantastic condition, but proletariat got it right on the nose. I don't drink much coffee but that is exactly what is sounds like, a coffee percolator just sputtering away. I probably wouldn't notice it otherwise but my TB has such low road/engine noise I just found it odd and annoying. I'm not so concerned now that I hear someone else has this and I agree about the not taking it in for service. Ah well, I just turn up the carpc and never hear about it anymore. Got some new speakers too, low end stuff, but they sound wayyyyy better than stock, odd huh, makes you wonder what they actually stuff in there at factory.
