Exclamation Do quad 4's have the same lower intake manifold problem

Hi I'm newer here, but do quad 4's have the same lower intake manifold problems as the v6's. I have a 2000 twin cam quad 4 that the coolant level is slowly getting lower, but I don't see one spot of fluid under the car. The oil looks perfectly normal on the dip stick, so is there any other way to tell if coolant is getting in the oil, or where the heck the collant is going?

No they do not have the same problems with intake gaskets, coolant doesnt go through the intake on these 4cyl.

Other then visual inspection of your oil would you know if it had a internal leak. It can get blown out the overflo on your res. tank.

They do sell UV dye you put in your coolant/oil/whatever to check for leaks.
A little pricey, $15-25 for a small bottle, then you'd need a blacklight to check for glowing trails.

It could be the water pump leaking and it is big job.Put a pressure pump on it.If it the water pump, the timing cover has to come off and it is ran by the timing chain. One warning with the 2.4 Quad 4s: DO NOT TURN BACKWARDS!You will bend the valves this way if you turn it backwards.Turn the crank as you are tightening a bolt.

Re: Do quad 4's have the same lower intake manifold problem

I had the same problom with mine but it's a 95 and it should be pretty close.
On mine the goose neck that goes into the side of the head was cracked and it was slowly leaking and then when the motor cooled of it would suck air into the motor and start to over heat. You have to pull that goose neck off to see if it is broken around the edge because there is a o-ring that set's in a grove that seals it up. Watch out for that little line that goes off the back of the goose neck ( it just pull's out but you have to remove two bolts )because it will break real easy and they are around 40 bux. good luck

Re: Do quad 4's have the same lower intake manifold problem

The last post got it right I believe! I had a similar problem on the exact same engine but I answered the earlier post from the same person. So I am posting hear.
I have a 2000 2.4 grand am had coolant problems that were similar . Missing coolant no dripping of coolant. Finally some dripping of coolant but couldn't find leak. Drove me crazy until the leak got real bad but couldn't find it. Found the problem by watching the cooling system hot with engines running. It was leaking at the gasket where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine block. The part that the hose connects to is plastic and can crack but stay closed until the presser builds then open and close as the presser releases spraying coolant on several places of engine.
