96 LT Brake Swap

I have a 96 LT and I am wanting to get rid of the drum brakes. Short of replacing the entire rear end could I just replace everything from the backing plate out with rotors, new lines and a set of loaded calipers? I really like the idea of four wheel discs and hate to look in and see a big old drum in there. The calipers and rotors seem to look better. COuld there be any drawbacks to this or is it a worthy swap?
