383 worries

ok, basically, i need to make sure my oil pump pickup will work well on my 383
Im thinking of getting a slightly deeper oil pan with a windage tray either built in to the pan or one specifically for bolting onto modified main studs. my basic question is if i can use a stock pickup tube with my mellings high volume pump. i am worried that maybe the tube wont go down deep enough into the pan to be always supplied with oil? anyone here have any 383 experience under thier belt?

Measure from the block rail to the bottom of the pick up, get your pan and gaskets together and check the depth from the pan rail to the bottom of the pan where the pick up will be, there should be about 3/8" area under the pick up.

the deeper pan gives you more capacity... this will also help cool the oil better. using a high volume pump with the oil pump pick up off the bottom of the pan would be and advantange as the sludge buildup will be less of a problem for pump.....
