Hi, I have a 99 olds alero 2.4 with about 150,000 miles on it. It wont start! I tried everything I could think of. I replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition coil, air filter, and even had a mechanic check my o2 sensors and cat! I even tried spraying starter fluid in the throttle body! and still it wont start! the only time it starts is if I unplug the electrical connector from the fuel pump and open the gas cap n still it only runs really rough for 2secs and shuts off. then wont start again! any ideas?!

Re: Someone Help Me Please?!!
The three basic for today's nternal combustion engines- fuel, spark, and air
So do a fuel pressure check- beg or borrow the gage- do a spark test- again find a spark tester- then that splits the analysis in half-- any other advice is guessing- and you might as well flip a coin without testing- as to what to fix...

As someone stated already it's a guess thing without the gauges and such but, a trick i was told by a reputable mechanic has come in handy for me and perhaps you may benefit from it.... RE: FUEL PRESSURE If you can get it started??? and it will at least run a few minutes??? then you can try this. Start car let it run a few minutes turn car off pull the vaccum line off of the pressure regulator look for any gasoline in the line If there is gasoline in that line then the fuel pressure regulator is NO GOOD! NOTE: In case you don't know where the F.P.R. is located it's at the end of the fuel rail towards the end of the engine that has the serpentine belt and is 2 inches or so around and should have an ''L'' shaped rubber connector that is on the end of like a 1/4 inch plastic tube (line) Problem with this method is your car has to run at least for a short time. So if nothing else you can keep it in mind for future reference. It just sounds like a fuel pressure problem. I found out a long time ago on my Alero that just because fuel gets from the tank to the engine don't mean the pressure is okay! For CERTAIN you don't want to hap-hazzardly just replace parts unless you got LOTS-O-CASH to throw away. Example being that little fuel pressure regulator (at least around here) is like $95.00 argh!!! gulp!!! Luck to ya on yer project! Dave |
