clicking coming from engine!
I have a 97 eclipse GS-T.It started out that it only clicked before my car warmed up but now my car has a very loud clicking noise all the time and it stalls whenever the clutch is engaged.

Where is the clicking coming from? Im guessing its probably lifter tick, most 4g63 motors have this. It wont hurt anything it can just be annoying.

but that doesn't explain the stalling.
When is the last time you changed or checked your oil?

How long has the constant ticking been going on? valve tick is a possibility and a scary one. I had an 2nd gen Integra that developed a valve tick and the motor let go within a week.

It stared real low and only in third, fourth, and fifth gears but that same day it got louder and worse and in all the gears and the whole stalling into the clutch thing started at the same time so I thought that the problems might be related. I parked the car the same day though and havent moved it yet.

I know these are frequently asked problems that you hear about but after reading many threads, I'm just confused. I really wouldnt know how to tell the difference between crankwalk, lifter tick, valve tick or just needing to flush all the fluids and start fresh.

Pull the dipstick and inspect the oil, I'm betting that you've got rod knock. If you hold the dipstick up in the sunlight, the metal specs should sparkle in the oil. If I was you, I would drop the pan and check the rod bearings.

Thanks for all the help guys..I'm in the navy and in VA and my car is in SC so I 'm not going to be able to check it til the weekend but I will take all of this advise and I'm sure I can figure out what is wrong with it...I will let you know as soon as I get an update....Thanks again.
