2001 O/D button issue

The O/D button on the end of the gear shift doesn't seem to work. When pushed the indicator light does not come on. The transmission seems to operate correctly and shifts into all gears.

Re: 2001 O/D button issue

So, you are certain that the trans goes into all gears and into OD? If you push the OD button when driving say 55 mph, does the trans drop out of OD into D? And when you push it again does it go back into O/D? If not, the switch under the OD button is probably no good or dirty. You should be able to pry off the ring cap that's at the end of the shifter and then the switch can come out. I know they are at the dealer and online probably. I couldn't find it at Autozone.com. It may simply need cleaning. If the switch operates the O/D then just your light isn't working. Did it normally come on at startup when you turned the key to run? Does it now? I have an older model that has the light on the end of the shifter handle, but I don't think it came on at startup.
