help me out please

in my 99 cavalier, my friend and i put a new clutch in. we couldn't get the gm syncromesh so we used some coastal gear oil. the car made a winding sound when in gear and went away when i pressed in the clutch. now the front end makes a clunking sound and grinds when i try to move it. a couple people say it could be input shaft bearing, or the inside of the axle. i jacked up the driver side when it was in gear and spun the tire and it didn't move. on the passenger side however, the tire would spin freely when in gear. help me out please.

Plain Gear oil? Would have been better off putting ATF in there. But i have a feeling its something with your clutch rather than transmission.

On the axle shaft that spins freely - pull it out of the trans and make sure the splines aren't all chewed up. If so, you didn't get the shaft back in all the way before you put it into gear and it chewed it up. It's worth checking anyway.
