How do I make a Honda Killer.

Im very new to cars and engines, so I thought that I would learn by asking your oppinions on this forum.

I was wondering how do I make my 99 3000GT sl into a Honda Killer. I don't have a lot of money in the bank since Im paying for school. I thought some cheap ways would be an air intake, exhaust for now. Hit me up with what you think.

Welcome to the forums and post some pics of your '99, we always enjoy giving props to a nice looking car!

As for increasing performance, check out the FAQ thread, there is a staged upgrade guide also, with little money you will be on stage one. and yes, an open element filter will help a little, but the exhuast is ok for your horsepower and you shouldnt mess with it unless you just hate the sound.

Stock for stock the only Honda you should have trouble with is the NSX and the S2000.

like poly said, "honda killer" is too generic. thats like saying you want a 'dodge killer'. are we talking neon or viper? lol.

being that you said your new to cars and engines, i say take it slow. a 99 SL has 220hp stock, and that's plenty for a novice driver. Before you start throwing power upgrades at it, make sure everything's in good working order. Fresh oil, good belts, clean/full fluids, etc. It will be good practice if you havnt had much experience in the engine bay. But as far as beating hondas...taking candy from a baby, exept the s2000, that will give you a good run if your 5-speed, and probably eat you if you're auto. I wouldnt worry about the NSX unless you've got TT conversion plans.

First and foremost, learn as much as you can about the location of engine parts in your car. There are certain things that a 3000GT and Stealth will gain horsepower from easily. For example, if you gut your pre-catalytic converters (off your exhaust manifolds), buy a test pipe (deletes the main catalytic converter) and buy a new downpipe (exhaust pipe in the front of your car) you will gain way more horsepower than the generic Cat-back exhaust and intake system for 1/3 of the price.

*Any catalytic converter tampering is not legal for street use... do you have emissions in your location?

Only the base models are SOHC on 97-99 models. SL's are still DOHC.

Thanks for the advice guys. Its an auto, and the head gasket is cracked so I need to get that fixed and with the tax return im plan on buying some new wheels and maybe some 17" with them.

S2000 stock for stock would beat a SL regardless of transmission. NSX will make a VR4 work for its money. I would even say that a RSX-S is just a bit faster than a SL. Even the new Civic Si's will give a SL a good run.

RSX-S has an aggressive head, but IIRC it's not V-TEC. The new SI's are the K20, with 200 HP with V-TEC but I still don't think they quite give a decent run.

The newer NSX's will most definately give a VR4 a run for their money. Ask Blink, he was beat by one. Even the older ones aren't too bad. I know Tatt in the racing secion has like a 91 with very basic performance upgrades and he ran like a 13.3 or so with a video to prove it.

Car and Driver tested the RSX-S with a ET time of 14.8 straight out of the box with a 6.2 0-60 time. And there worst time was a 14.9 down the strip. SL's can't break 14's stock, especially not consistantly.

Here is one of the more conservative times for a 08 Civic Si I have seen and it ran a 15.1. From what I've heard, a decient driver can run high 14's with them all day long. Agian, that's faster than the SL. The SL with the MTX is a usual runner of mid 15's with a great driver hitting low 15's. And to this date, (I could be wrong) I don't believe there has been one person who has presented evidence of running a 14.8 in a SL stock ever.

but to give the VR4 some credit, i had'nt had it for too long and was pretty bad at shifting, I didnt launch it, and i shifted at like 6k.

but to give some credit back to the NSX, the one i ran was an older one...IIRC

A stock NSX can go 0-60 in around the mid 5 second range. In fact Top Gear had one of the earlier ones which was rated a 5.7 seconds. Almost a full second slower than a TT.

Yeah and that may be. But remember, it's not just the car that can do 0-60 run that is the fastest. Some cars can be very difficult to launch but once they get moving they really start to pick up speed fast. After getting the hang of it obviously the TT is going to get out of the whole quickly with 245 tires, AWD, and almost instantaneously spooling turbos. While the the 3S was obviously not a purpose built drag car the NSX most certainly isn't either. I remember watching a video of a newer NSX giving a Lamborghini Murceilago a very good run around around a track, both proffessional drivers.
