1/4? Really? What car?

Never heard of stuff you can buy. This is rather a case of full scratch building!
It's big enough to do that and i wouldn't even know what to photoetch there! The needles in the dials maybe :-)

Re: 1/4 scale stuff?

You can try searching for quarter scale RC stuff. However, those usually have limited (if any) interior detail . . .

Worth a shot though as ya never know what kind of after market stuff is being produced. . .

Good luck. . .

Re: 1/4 scale stuff?

All right...the scale was too obvious. I knew it... :-) Which college are you from?
Seriously.....aftermarket stuff is absolutely "no go" in a design project unless it's really small bits. I hope you don't consider putting an aftermarket part for something as important as a steering wheel in your model!?
Before worrying about little bits and bobs to add, focus on getting the proportions and surfaces right. If they are wrong they'll distract from the details you put in.
How much time do you have left to build the model? Good luck with it!

/\ /\ /\ I agree. I'm assuming you have a hell of a lot more experience in doing what you are doing there, and I am assuming that is the rough beginnings, but it appears there that the proportioning of that interior need a lot of work before the smaller details go into it. I cannot wait to see how that comes out. Your building the body from scratch as well?

Keep us updated.

Re: 1/4 scale stuff?

Progress!

Been resurfacing and balancing the entire model, but still tonns to do hope to finish surfacing and balancing in a weeks time.

Seats are been built using rapid prototyping in about 2-3weeks time,

all the little details are being lazer cut from plastic card, Almost finished drawing them up!

Dials and instrument panel will be lazer etched so all the details will be visible!

im planning on using leathers (v thin) bmf and flocking to simulate a real interior. an a little paint here and there

BTW I never planned to use aftermarket parts just wanted to see whats out there.

Also Im at Coventry Uni and ive got till end of may to finish!

Thks for support

Re: 1/4 scale stuff?

All right:-)
Looks like you have a busy schedule ahead of you. Good luck with progress and with adding those materials on top of the clay. Making the leather stick on it ( especially on the more complicated surfaces ) will be tricky at best. I did it over yellow foam on a model and a lot of tension was necessary to get the wrinkles out.
One possibility you should consider is using a paint like Nextel Suede Coating
http://www.nextel-coating.com/nextel...lt.asp?lng=eng
You can spray it through a standard airbrush ( the real size type that's used to spray 1:1 cars ) and get a very nice fabric like surface. ( A lot like flocking but with a more even surface ). It's not cheap though and you can't buy it at a DIY market....
The "faux fabrics" spray cans by Scalemotorsport are probably the same thing and even easier to use but you have less choice for colours.
Looking forward to see more progress :-)
