A new problem, leaking somewhere
I have a 2000 SEL, with 102.000 miles on her. I was going to replace the struts this coming weekend, but noticed that there was a spot f oil the size of a quarter on the garage floor.
I crawled under suspecting the rack blew out, but I can see the inner CV boot is wet. The boot on the rack is dry. I thought maybe the PS pump, but that is also dry. The inner CV boot is wet, and I cannot figure out what is causing this. he oil on the garage floor looked like ATF fluid. |

Re: A new problem, leaking somewhere
There is the transaxle output shaft seal, the seal right next to the inner cvjoint. But it could be power steering fluid dripping down on the boot as that is similiarly colored to atf, it may even be atf in the ps. There are two ps lines that are above the half shaft and most likely what would drip on the boot..

Re: A new problem, leaking somewhere
Had a little better look at it today and it looks like it is dripping from the bottom of the crankshaft and the pulley. How tough is it to change this?

Clean that whole side of the engine top to bottom. Valve covers, Intake, Sensors 2 of them. Top and crank sensors. Front cover of the engine. Front of oil pan where it meets the engine block. Then run it. Then start looking for oil. I would investagate more before.. Pinpoint the leak the best you can... Just because its at the crank or around the crank seal dont mean its a seal etc. Its not easy getting to that area. Engine mounts have to be loosened etc. cause its an inch away from the body. |
