Limiter

so, noob question from someone whos had a vr4 fo0r almost a year now :P

Do we have a rev limiter? im pretty sure jason said we did, but i cant remember. If so, does it sound alot slower than a normal limiter(like one on a SRT-4)? Basically im trying to figure out if im hitting the limiter at High RPMs, or Fuel cut under high boost. My data logger is showing no knock, but i jus wanna b sure. Thanks

Re: Limiter

Re: Limiter

Go start your car, let it warm up a little, then hold the clutch in and floor it. You'll hear the limiter.

I think it sounds kinda quick, at least on my car. I have a bad habit of hitting it if I run 2nd all the way out.

When I had my SOHC on the dyno it went well over 6k rpms... I was suprised. Of course it doesn't make ANY power over 6k LOL.

The DOHC's definitely have a limiter at around 7250, but you can go higher if you miss a shift or something. I've seen over 8400 rpms on my stealth when I missed a shift (recorded by a s-afc).

Re: Limiter

Yeah its right around 6300 limiter. My car loves second gear for some reason and pulls all the way to the limiter.

Re: Limiter

Just a quick note, hitting the rev limiter will not help you any. If it be a race for speed or anything. Plus its a good way to do serious damange to other parts of your car....please only act stupid if you are ready to wrench more then needed on your car.

Re: Limiter

Hitting the limiter will not necessarily do damage. The limiter is to prevent damage. My brother has sat there and held his old Cherokee's gas pedal to the floor trying to get out of a mud hole and it was just bouncing off the limiter for a good 30 seconds. No damage.

Re: Limiter

i've only hit my limiter once. I dont like to make a habit out of it on a 15 year old vehicle. There's not really any need to take it that high anyways since i have stock turbos.

Re: Limiter

An overrev happens usually on a misshift. For instance you go to shift to 4th and hit 2nd instead. The ECU can't keep up with that and will sweep past the rev limiter.

Re: Limiter

my point was, as brian and i know, most oil pumps and pick ups are not up to snuff. This will limit the amount of oil the engine needs at that RPM. Limit it enough and kaboom.

lmao i used to do that all the time on accident (back when i was learnin to drive stick)..maybe thats why my car has had so many problems lol

what kinda horsepower will a stock GT sl make on a dyno? just asking cuz on 3si i read a mod'd gt will only make 190 to the wheels..so curious as to what a stock one will make....cuz i would always read our cars having 222..so i wanna kno why its so low lol

Re: Limiter

222 is severely overrated. In reality max they make at the crank stock is 210. They only dyno 170 to the wheels in stock form. Theres not many na mods you can do to it to get significant gains.
