91 4runner ignition prob
I jsut garaged my 4 runner because ive been getting weird battery readings with eventually made me think my alternator was going, I took my airfilter/bunch of hoses out of the way to get at it, replaced alternaor with a used one out of a corolla. didnt fit but i jimmy rigged it. belt is tight, should work right? I put it all back together charged my batt with a charger. starter goes everytime but engine wont fire up. I never ever ever have problems with this. I then realized i pulled a wire off from my ignitioncoil, to the thing your sparkplug wires lead to. I reconnected it thinking problem solved only it still wont start. any ideas what it could be?

Re: 91 4runner ignition prob
does anyone know if alternators work both ways? I installed a corolla alternator and its the exact same as the 4runner one only the plug ins are on oposate side. so that means even though i mounted it. it should be spinning the opposate way im thinking. does anyone know if your alternator was backwards/completely broken, and your batt was good, would the starter crank but no engine spark? because my starter cranks/alternator belt turns no spark. everything was fine untill my alternator went and I tried to change it

Re: 91 4runner ignition prob
I managed to figure it out, while i was dissassembling the air filter box one the top is a huge like 5 pronged plug in. before I figured out how to click it off I unscrewed the 2 screws that you should not ever unscrew and the male and female end of the connection came off, that means I was yanking on the wire connections for the plug in, a wire must have came off I went to the junk yard got a new top peice to the airfilter and it worked perfect. I had to get a proper alternator from the junk yard too. but it was only 30 $ score!
