2002 TB oil pressure gauge dropping to 0 then back to 40

Went on a trip this last weekend and had the oil changed before I left. Of course trusting my dealership I didn't recheck before departing. I traveled 250 miles up into the mountains when the check guage light came on and noticed the oil pressure dropping to 0, after a few seconds it would go back to 45-55.
I pulled over and shut engine off. Checked oil level and didn't see any on dip stick. Middle of no were so I restarted and had stable oil pressure. Drove 50 miles to nearest town with no problems. Put in 2 quarts of oil (don't like dipstick) I think it was up. Drove another 150 miles to my destination, just as I was pulling into the driveway I noticed the oil pressure acting up again. Next day I changed the realy black nasty oil (hadn't been changed by my trusting dealer). Filled it with 7quarts 5-30 and new filter. Left headed back home. Made it 150 miles when gauge acted up again. Stopped checked oil and added 1/2 quart, restarted and drove 250 miles with no problem. Help!!

Help? wow, I'd be back at their door now! If the oil was low engine damage may have occurred, the pressure should be checked with a seperate mechanical gage for starters.

What was your resolution? Mine is doing this now.

a little late, after two oil changes it quit doing it. I keep a close eye on the level of the oil and make sure it stays full and haven't had any more problems of this.
all though i have had other problems and a current issue. really love the outfit but not enough for all the problems. It is an expensive lesson. Have had chevy's all my life, next outfit won't be.
