2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

GA_googleFillSlot("Forums_ROS_300x250_noad");I noticed a crackling sound coming from the blower motor area. This crackling sound occurs even when my fan/ac is turned off. I'm guessing it's the resistor that's making the noise (common failing problem). However my fan speeds are all normal, the fan has never failed, but sometimes I noticed my AC does not turn on. It says "AC ON" on my climate control but it blows hot air out of the vents, like if the heater function was selected. When this occured, I lightly banged the blower motor area with my palm and my AC was working again. This all seems very strange and I know there's a bad part in there. I just don't know which part I should be replacing. Any ideas?? thanks

Re: 2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

Are you sure the vans use a resistor still ??

I would imagine it uses the solid state type control Honda has available.

You could have a leaf of something similar trapped inside and making noise, try taking out the cabin filters and see if you can see inside.

The A/C not kicking in problem... Not sure.

Re: 2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

I'm only guessing they are still using the resistors, I'm reading about the problems people are having with them. Not sure if the 2003 model uses them though.

It's not a leaf stuck in there, when I unplug the wires and remove the power, the noise goes away. the sound is definately coming from the blower motor area. But since my fan and AC blows at all speeds, I would think the blower function isn't a problem yet. My guess it the resistor problem that alot of people have mentioned. However they are saying the resistor only affects the speeds on the fan, which I don't experience. I'm really stumped on this problem

Re: 2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

It appears to have a couple different circuits. If you don't have climate control (do you set specific temperature numbers or just have a cold ---> hot temp control ??)
You may have a blower resisitor unit. Most resistor units are placed in the blower fans air path for cooling of the resistor. It may be located under the passenger side area and should be easily removed with a couple of screws.

The color for the wires to the resistor are shown as BLUE/RED BLUE/BLACK BLUE/YELLOW and BLUE. 4 wires total.

Re: 2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

The model I have is the EX model and it does have the automatic climate control. So you think it's the blower resistor that needs to be replaced? Would you happen to have a part number? 2003 EX model

Re: 2003 Odyssey blower motor resistor problem?

The models with climate control do not show a resistor unit being used (electronic speed control)

Do you know what wires you are taking loose to stop noise ??
