Installing Neons Help

Hi, I currently own a 19999 firebird and I am installing flex LED type neon lights under my car. I have the knowledge to install them but I just had a wiring question. Currently I only have 2 inside LED lights that shine onto the passenger and drivers lap and legs. These LEDS are hooked up by a ground nut on the chassis and running the hot to a light wire for the shifter. It seems to work fine and I can even fade it with the variable pot but I am looking to install something more now. I am aiming to install 8 LED neon tubes(4 underglow, 4 wheel well) on my car with a controller that can change the actions of the neons. I plan on grounding it to the same part of the chassis but as for the hot I wanted to know rather this would be to much power to put through such a small wire, the wire that is used for the shifter light is only about 20 gauge. The reason I'm using the shifter light is kind of obvious, I could run it straight to the battery but it would ruin the purpose of being able to turn on my neons when my headlights come on.

Re: Installing Neons Help

you'd probably get a lot more responses if you left out what the lights were

Without knowing the wattage of the lights, there's nothing we can add. I wouldn't go over 4 amps on a 20 guage wire.

Either switch it with a relay, or rework the circuit with bigger gauge, if the amps of the lights equals more than that

Oh I'm not sue of the wattage but that helped me a lot, a relay is an excellent idea, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks!!
