1997 Sable electrical problems

MY sable has begun some strange behavior. First the radio started going out, then the seatbelt light would start flashing and the power locks would engage and disengage. The power windows will also stop working, but the worst of it is that I lose the power steering. Everything is fine when in Neutral or Park, but the when the car is in drive it becomes possessed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: 1997 Sable electrical problems

That is a strange one, but it really sounds like maybe the serpenteen belt under the hood broke, would explain the power steering, the other stuff sounds like low battery symptoms (not getting charged because the altenator isn't functioning due to the missing belt) The belt in question drives the power steering, water pump, air conditioning, and altenator. You can live without power steering but not fun. Battery will only go for a few hours without the altenator. The engine will fry in minutes without a water pump.

Thank you so much for your reply. In case you ever come acrossed this issue again...this is what I did
I found that it was the TR Sensor that was bad. (Thanks to some very helpful people and the web) The dealer wanted to charge an arm and leg for the sensor which I didn't really want to invest in this old of a car. My solution was the junk yard. I pick up 2 there for 1.50 (in case 1 was bad) and installed them myself. This fixed all of the problems that were occuring.
