98 Jimmy Door - Key will not Open

Hi
My 1st post and I hope someone can help.
I just purchased this vehicle - it came with 1 key and a FOB (Battery dead in FOB so I replaced it - unable to get it programmed so far).
My issue is I had 2 new keys cut from the original - and of course tried them immediately. They all worked - once. Ignition is fine, but now the door(s) will not lock or unlock with any key, new or old.
Both doors are unlocked, but when I insert the key (original or newbies) the lock will not move. It's as if I have the wrong key - Any ideas as to what I did or can do to fix. Thanks for taking the time - Great Forum and happy to have found it,
susan

Welcome to AF.
Have you tryed the right hand door lock.
Strange they would work one time and not the next.
Got any midnight theives jimming the lock cylinder?
Squirt some wd-40 or lube into the lock cylinder and try it.

Re: 98 Jimmy Door - Key will not Open

Hi, and Thank You for responding.
The door locks seem be to fozen - in other words when I put the factory key into either the driver door or passenger door - it will not turn to unlock.
The vehicle is equiped with power windows, door locks and I can't for the life of me understand why they would both go into a locked position.
I am 60 miles from the nearest dealership and I'm trying desparately to resolve this without the long drive. As it is I'm leaving the vehicle unlocked till I get this figured out.
As an aside, The factory key is a standard key (no chip), the locks quit working when I put in the keys I had cut into them to make sure they would work. They do not, nor the factory key - yet they all work in the ignition. This is mind boggling to say the least.
Is it possible that the electronic door lock could be the culprit (?) or am I reaching. It works okay, depress to lock push to unlock and the doors cycle - just the darn key(s)..................... will not lock or unlock.......
Thanks again for listening,
susan

Try some wd-40 or lubercaint in the lock cylindere and retry the factory key.
Jiggle and wiggle and push key in and out and up and down and see if they will free up.
Good luck

You ae welcome and thanks for letting us know how it went.
Glad you got it freed up.

The WD-40 does not have much lube in it and may dry out fast so try to get some better lube in there to keep it working good.
Good luck

I agree with MT-2500, WD-40 is a great solvent but doesn't have much in the way of lubrication. For door locks use a graphite or other dry lubricant, oil or silicon lubricants form a film that collects dust and grit and wears out the the lock. Also you want to oil the door hinges and latch assembly and put a little grease on the latch stricker post
