1995 intrepid transmission removal

ok im working on removing the dead transmisison in a 95 intrepid right now

i finally got the 4 upper bellhousing bolts out after much cursing and skin scraping

dropped the exhaust as low as it will go in the front since they dont come out all the way due to the subframe being too narrow

i need to know a few things ASAP

the trans mount: should i remove the single acrossways throguh bolt in the mount assembly, or remove the 4 small bolts that hold the mount to the crossmember ? looks like thje crossmemberneeds to be removed as well in order for the trans to come back and down out of there

wiring harness plugs: only found one such plug and its on the pass side

is there another wiring plug anywhere i cant see ?

thats pretty much it right now

thanks for anything D

Re: 1995 intrepid transmission removal

Make sure the Transmission is supported, then remove the single long bolt that holds the mount to the Transmission, then remove the 4 bolts that holds the Transmission crossmember to the subframe to get it out of the way for removal.

The Transmission wiring is connected to a main connector block on the passenger side strut tower, and should be the only wiring to worry about but look it all over real closely just in case before yanking it.

Re: 1995 intrepid transmission removal

The cable housing should be clipped to the case or to a bracket on the case, squeezing a couple of tabs should be needed to remove it, the cable end should have a grommet on it where it attaches to the shift arm and that should pop off by prying the cable end off the arm, you may need to remove the cooler lines (Should be removed anyhow to replace the tranny) to get better access to the shifter cable.

Re: 1995 intrepid transmission removal

ok the cable housing to the trans case was eay, one bolt and it holds a big clamp down

simple D

the only thing i never figured out was the trans wiring harness
it has no main plug away from the trans, i had to unplug every little thingsd from the trans itself to get the trans out, the harness doesnt unplug from the main car harness

i could not find such a plug to separate the trans harness from the rest of the car harness

hmm

it just goes endlessly up into the engine compartment from the trans

going to go pick up a replacement trans from the junkyard today sometime

tranny mount is junk completely broken apart so getting a new one of those too haha

no wonder it had a clunk noise

thanks!
