Unhappy 1994 GAGT Shift Lock

I just finished replacing the 4T60E trans in my 1994 GT, and everything works just fine EXCEPT for one quirky little thing:

Normally when the car is in reverse you can move the gearshift selector (car is an auto if you didn't guess by the trans) into neutral and then into drive without actually pushing the button on the knob.

Now that we have everything back together, its backwards - I can move the car from drive to neutral to reverse without hitting the button on the knob. I don't like this because if anyone happens to bump the knob (or anything - such as my dog who likes to climb from the back to the front from time to time) they could potentially engage reverse at highway speeds!!

Thoughts on what to check? Is this something within the shifter mechanism itself, or something with in the trans?

Outside of this the replacement trans works beautifully.

Please advise.

Re: 1994 GAGT Shift Lock

Welcome to AF.

Might be your brake shift interlock, check the cable running to the console/shifter.
Also make sure your shift cable is tighend on the trans.
